Alex Hensley

Alex Hensley (she/they) is a lover of all things beautiful and their current art form is pole dancing. Alex was raised in Shreveport, Louisiana, and moved to Memphis, Tennessee five years ago. Alex has dabbled in lots of different art forms--writing, graphic design, theatre, singing and making music, painting, drawing, but nothing’s stuck quite like dancing. She’s danced many a time with her family and friends, taking salsa with her parents, doing a dance competition in middle school, dancing at football games throughout high school, and more. They started pole dancing in November of 2019, and consider it a liberatory practice and a hearty FU to the evangelical purity culture they were raised in.

Since then, she’s performed several times in Slut Recital, a bi-monthly virtual erotic dance showcase, and is now a part of the planning team. You can follow Alex’s pole journey on Instagram @polerbby. Additionally, they are the Interim Administrator for Artkognito.

Outside of what’s traditionally considered art, much of her creative energy has gone into building community and making social change. Alex has successfully led campaigns in Memphis to achieve historic oil pipeline regulation, public transit funding, criminal justice & police reforms, and living wages for workers.
Overall, they seek to find & create beauty in all things.
